Product Description
Dating back to the 12th century, the Lion and Sun (Shir-o-Khorsheed) icon is one of Iran’s most prominent national identities. Between 1846 and 1979, it was the distinguishing feature of the country’s flag and is still recognized as a secular coat of arms. The lion holding a saber has over time acquired a patriotic interpretation of the valiant heroes who stood ready to defend the nation. The sun, symbolizing love and enlightenment, stands for the motherland and traces its roots to Jamsheed, the mythical king who founded Iran and many of its ancient traditions.
